Nissan is giving its subcompact SUV a tougher personality for 2027 with the new Nissan Kicks Rock Creek. Based on the SV trim, this version adds standard all-wheel drive, rugged styling, a roof rack, and an off-road driving mode designed to make the Kicks more capable away from paved roads.

The Rock Creek package has already appeared on larger Nissan SUVs such as the Rogue and Pathfinder, and now it makes its way to the Kicks. The trim brings unique 17-inch wheels, black exterior accents, amber daytime running lights, and a redesigned grille. Its chunky roof rack and crossbars can carry up to 165 pounds.

There are no mechanical upgrades, but the Rock Creek gains an off-road mode that allows additional wheel slip from the traction-control system. Hill-descent control is also included. Ground clearance remains unchanged at 8.4 inches, putting it slightly below the Subaru Crosstrek’s 8.7 inches. Is Nissan’s rugged makeover enough to challenge the Crosstrek’s outdoorsy image?

The cabin receives its own upgrades, including special upholstery and Rock Creek branding on the floor mats. Buyers also get ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, heated steering wheel, heated seats, and heated mirrors. Many of these features are optional elsewhere in the Kicks lineup, helping explain the Rock Creek’s higher price.

The 2027 Nissan Kicks starts at $24,335, while the Rock Creek costs $30,385—$2,350 more than the SV AWD. With standard AWD and extra equipment, could the Rock Creek be the Kicks for buyers who want a little more adventure without stepping up to a larger SUV?
