The BYD Sealion 08 has officially launched in China as a mid-to-large SUV available with both PHEV and BEV powertrains. Eight versions are offered, priced from 229,900 to 279,900 yuan.
The SUV follows BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” design language, with distinctive “Ice Eye” lighting, floating hub caps and a wide gradient taillight. At 5,115 mm long, it offers both five- and six-seat layouts.
Inside, the Sealion 08 features a 17.3-inch central display, 12.3-inch digital cluster and 26-inch AR-HUD. Higher trims add zero-gravity seating, a 21.4-inch roof screen, a 25-speaker Devialet system and a built-in refrigerator.
The PHEV uses a 1.5T engine and second-generation Blade Battery, delivering up to 400 km of CLTC electric range and 1,650 km combined. BEV versions use a larger 115.072-kWh battery, offering up to 900 km of CLTC range, while the most powerful AWD version produces 667 kW combined.
The SUV also gets DiSus-A air suspension, rear-wheel steering, crab-walk mode and BYD’s “God’s Eye 5.0” driver-assistance system. Is this one of BYD’s most convincing SUVs yet? Could the huge range challenge established rivals? And would you choose the PHEV or BEV?
