One, the cars were delivered in semi-finished, primered form to be completed by their owners, and, two, they were created solely for the track. Perhaps acceptable to that era’s buyers, a modern-day purchaser should be much more akin to the Dart being offered here. Finished in Viper Red, this ‘show with go’ masterpiece is the result of a platinum-level ground-up restoration completed by Muscle Car Restorations, Inc. in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Only 770 miles have been driven since this work was done. The project began with a body being chemically stripped and e-coated; to this, all new glass and tinted windshield were installed, all hardware zinc plated, and even a trunk-mounted Super Stock battery was relocated just like the original used. Blending 20th and 21st century performance comes from the 426/525 HP Hemi crate engine, now equipped with Fast XFI fuel injection with selector switch, a March serpentine pulley system, MSD ignition, powder-coated valve covers and Be Cool Radiator with pusher fan. The elephant roars through ceramic-coated and polished Hooker headers and a silver-coated TTI 3-inch exhaust with QTP quick time electric exhaust cut-outs for additional ‘bellow’ as desired. Stirred by a Hurst handle, a Passion Performance A833 4-speed transmission and 4.10:1 Dana rear axle with True-Trac rounds out the driveline, with a traction-control system monitoring the performance. Suspension mods are also retrofitted, with the rear end mini-tubbed and leaf springs moved into the frame rails, plus MCR’s proprietary front spring hangers. The interior combines old and new. For instance, the car has power windows with OEM-type window straps, correct-appearing dash, seat and gauge layouts, Legendary interior panels and the unique heater-delete plate. Body-color OE steel wheels with dog-dish hubcaps and radial tires complete the picture; there is even a custom pouch for the lift-display hood props. Those originals could be a lot of work; turn the key and this spectacular creation is on its way. https://www.mecum.com/lots/269396/1968-dodge-dart/
