Toyota Hilux 2027: what has changed and which version should you choose?

The new Toyota Hilux is now presented locally as a 2027 model. Buyers can choose between a working pickup and a more extensively equipped vehicle for everyday use. The official range starts at AED 107,900 for a Single Cab, while an automatic Double Cab starts at AED 120,900. The useful starting points are therefore seating, load-bed requirements and equipment, before comparing headline prices.

What has changed with the new Hilux?

Toyota revealed the new Hilux generation in November 2025. The local “2027” designation is a model year; it does not mean the world premiere took place in 2027. More angular styling and slim front lights give the pickup a different appearance.

The range itself matters more to a buying decision. Local buyers have 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel choices, with larger screens and additional driver assistance available in higher grades. The Hilux name does not guarantee identical capabilities: compare the GL and Overland equipment lists carefully.

Global announcements about electric versions should not automatically become assumptions about a local order. Use the exact specification and quotation for the vehicle being supplied. This is particularly useful during a generation change, when advertisements for different model years appear together.

Which versions are listed, and what do they cost?

The October 2026 official specification sheet lists six configurations, all with 4×4. Prices include VAT but exclude shipping and handling; colour charges may apply. Obtain a written quotation showing the final amount.

ConfigurationTransmissionPrice, AED
Single Cab 2.7 GLX5-speed manual107,900
Double Cab 2.7 GL6-speed automatic120,900
Double Cab 2.7 GLX MT5-speed manual125,900
Double Cab 2.8 DLS6-speed automatic126,900
Double Cab 2.7 GLX AT6-speed automatic137,900
Double Cab 2.8 Overland6-speed automatic164,900

The lowest price buys a manual Single Cab. For a family or work crew needing a second row, the Double Cab is the relevant starting point. The petrol GL AT and diesel DLS AT are AED 6,000 apart. The two diesel grades have a much larger AED 38,000 gap, which primarily buys additional equipment.

Should you choose a Single Cab or Double Cab?

The Single Cab seats three, while the Double Cab seats five. Their load beds are respectively 2,350 mm and 1,555 mm long. Regularly carrying long equipment can make the Single Cab worth considering even when your budget allows a more expensive version.

Measure the actual load before ordering, including packaging and space needed to secure it. For a Double Cab, check rear-seat access and legroom behind the usual driver. These checks are more useful than comparing cabin photographs.

Bed dimensions do not establish payload. Request the permitted load for the exact configuration and account for passengers, fitted equipment and accessories. If you will tow, separately confirm the vehicle’s towing limits. Do not transfer another version’s figures without checking applicability.

What does the 2.8 diesel offer over the 2.7 petrol?

On toyota.ae, the 2.7 petrol is rated at 164 hp and 245 Nm, while the 2.8 diesel produces 201 hp and 500 Nm. Both are four-cylinder engines. The substantial torque difference makes the diesel worth investigating for frequent loaded journeys or routes with climbs.

Figures alone do not establish how comfortably the vehicle handles your work. During a test drive, assess pulling away, accelerator response, gear changes and acceleration noise. Where possible, arrange a demonstration with a representative load within the permitted limits.

The petrol GL AT is the starting point for an automatic Double Cab at a lower purchase price. Compare it with the DLS using annual mileage, fuel expenditure and service quotations. More torque does not, by itself, establish lower ownership costs.

How much fuel should you budget for?

The specification lists 10 km/l for automatic petrol Double Cabs and 13.9 km/l for both diesels. These convert to approximately 10 and 7.2 litres/100 km. They provide a starting point, rather than a guarantee for your route: load, traffic, air conditioning and off-road use affect consumption.

As an illustrative calculation, 30,000 km annually would require 3,000 litres of petrol or approximately 2,158 litres of diesel at those published rates. Calculate expenditure separately using the relevant price for each fuel. Do not multiply the difference in litres by a single shared fuel price.

Repeat the calculation with higher consumption and add service quotations. If the diesel produces an annual saving, divide the purchase-price difference by that saving for a rough payback period. This only works with a positive saving and excludes future resale value.

Is the Overland worth the premium?

The Overland includes a panoramic view monitor, blind-spot monitoring and Toyota Safety Sense 3, including adaptive cruise control. Multi-Terrain Select and a rear differential lock support off-road use. Assess these features against actual routes and habits before choosing the highest grade.

If the pickup mainly works at a familiar site, first establish whether the DLS meets the brief. If it also handles family travel and longer journeys, arrange a separate demonstration of the Overland. Try the cameras, assistance settings and multimedia system with your own phone.

For buyers prioritising cabin comfort, the intermediate petrol GLX AT also deserves attention: it includes dual-zone climate control and a 12.3-inch multimedia display. The choice need not jump directly from the entry GL to the most expensive model.

Does a previous Hilux still make sense?

Yes, when the price and condition of the particular vehicle justify it. Compare current offers by cab, engine, transmission and intended use. Unsold new stock from an earlier model year and a pickup with years of working use require different checks and do not form one comparable price category.

For a used vehicle, review maintenance records, frame and load-bed condition, evidence of repairs and an independent inspection. For unsold new stock, confirm production date, warranty commencement and storage conditions. A discount becomes meaningful after comparing complete quotations and any necessary additional expenditure.

What should you check before ordering?

☐ The quotation identifies model year, cab, engine, transmission and grade.

☐ Seating and load-bed space suit the normal passengers and cargo.

☐ Payload and any required towing limits are confirmed.

☐ The final price includes the chosen colour, delivery and agreed accessories.

☐ Warranty terms, servicing costs and delivery timing are clear.

Conclusion

Choose the Hilux 2027 around its job: Single Cab when a longer bed matters, or Double Cab when you need five seats. Then compare the petrol GL AT and diesel DLS against loads and annual mileage. Judge the GLX AT or Overland premium by features you will use. The model update is an opportunity to find the right configuration for your needs and budget.
