Likely impossible to experience claustrophobia within, the 23-window Volkswagen Bus is a legend in the autosphere and pop culture. One of the many variants of the VW Bus, the 23-window variant was the most opulent, the most expensive and, legend has it, originally created for a Swiss touring company to provide spectacular views of the Alps while driving through them. While the Type II’s history is deeply seated in the U.S. as the most popular mode of hippie transportation, around the globe it also served as a mainstay work vehicle, helping companies, municipalities and families carry product and people alike.

But the 23- and later 21-window Buses were normally reserved for privateers looking for a very open-air experience for their families. It was efficient, roomy and reasonably comfortable, making it a tremendous option for anyone looking for a more spacious vehicle. This 1960 Type II Bus is finished in two-tone Mango Green and Off-White with white-painted bumpers and bumper guards, and it’s also fitted with a host of brightwork and trim. Equipped with barn-style doors, the sliding sunroof and sky windows, the Safari windshield and pop-out side glass, it’s obvious this van is all about maximum ventilation and visibility.

Inside, the Bus offers three-row seating upholstered in tan material with white piping and trim throughout. It’s also equipped with the overhead ventilation unit, rubber front floormats, square-weave rear carpeting and a Custom Autosound USA-230 stereo system. Powered by a dual-port 1500cc flat 4-cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission, it rolls on 15-inch steel wheels with chrome VW hubcaps and Coker whitewall tires, rounding out the classic look.
