Chassis No.: CT60080

Engine No.: CT6035E

Registration: 415 VC

We are delighted to offer this Powder Blue 1962 Triumph TR4 that has been meticulously restored and prepared for fast road and competition use. The car was restored to concours condition during the early 1990’s, culminating in a headline feature in the July 1995 edition of ‘Classic & Sportscar’ magazine. In the intervening period, 415 VC changed ownership and was subject to an intensive schedule of improvements by a well-respected marque specialist in Nottinghamshire, to echo the spirit of the Triumph Works Rally cars.

The modifications and upgrades, of which there were many, included the following; strengthened chassis frame, engine rebuilt to provide a reliable and tractable output of 150BHP, twin Weber carburettors and uprated fuel delivery system, uprated steering and suspension systems, full competition exhaust system, Revington TR leather competition seat assemblies with full harnesses, uprated braking system, with balance bar and rear brake disc conversion, uprated cooling system with Kenlowe cooling fan and aluminium radiator, heated front windscreen, uprated electrical system, with alternator and period “Cibié” driving lamps.

More recently, 415 VC has received further attention by the well-respected marque specialist, Manvers Triumph, which involved the installation of correct front wing side vents and grilles, oil catch tank, a bulkhead air scoop, competition tow-hook set, a custom-fitted Safety Devices rear roll cage and a set of genuine Minilite road wheels.

Significantly, as with any TR4 of this age, its specifications are extremely important and it is worth noting that 415 VC retains its original Coventry issued number plate, early domed glass instruments, overdrive gearbox and has the rare and sought after aluminium hard/surrey top with the central portion being removable (later versions were made in steel). On inspection, the coachwork displays very well with unusually faultless door gaps; almost impossible to obtain to this standard. The undersides reflect the condition of the car throughout and are well protected with Morris Ankor Wax preservative.

The interior is excellent and boasts, a Mota-Lita steering wheel and the original enamelled dashboard. On a recent test, this TR4 drove very well; of particular note is how well the overdrive, operational on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, operated smoothly both during selection and de-selection. A large file accompanies this TR4 and includes the aforementioned magazine article, invoices, photographs of works carried out and a UK V5 registration document. We are informed that 415 VC will also arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate.

This is a genuine UK, righthand drive TR4 which offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a finely prepared example of the marque that reflects those ‘Works’ Triumphs, and is capable of immediate use, both in road and competition form.
