The Land Cruiser is a series of four wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese car maker and is Toyota's longest running series. Production of the first generation Land Cruiser began in 1951 (90 units) as Toyota's version of a 'Jeep' vehicle. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon and cab chassis versions. Its’ reliability and longevity has led to huge popularity, especially in Australia where it is the best selling body on frame four wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback – considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain.
The Land Cruiser 80 series was unveiled in October 1989 at the Tokyo Motor Show and launched in early 1990. It had swing-out back doors, which were replaced by a winch door in 1994. The J80 was initially offered in two versions in these countries: the fully loaded VX and an entry level model that included a vinyl interior with optional air conditioning. In 1995 driver and passenger airbags were introduced as were adjustable shoulder belt anchors and an anti-lock braking system. The Toyota badge was replaced with the modern Toyota logo (which is sometimes described as a "bean with a hat" aka "the sombrero").
This fantastic example is presented in metallic burgundy over grey and has grey leather interior, which is in great condition. This superb 4X4 was bought from Toyota in 1995 by the previous owner who used it sparingly over the 22 years in his ownership and the present owner purchased the car from him in 2017. This VX model is fully loaded with full leather interior, air conditioning, electric windows, electric front seats and electric sunroof. It also comes with every MoT certificate from 1995, two keys with alarm fobs, factory fitted tracker and all Toyota handbooks which are presented in their original leather wallet. The cars last full service was carried out at 39,730 miles.
This is surely the finest example of what is known worldwide as probably one of the best and certainly most robust of all 4X4 cars ever made. With the four litre diesel engine, this will certainly provide enough power to travel those long European distances in luxury, as well as a quick trip to the shops. Versatile, luxurious and highly desirable, this particular example is probably the finest of its kind available on the market today.
