This exceptional final-year FJ-60 was sold new at Big Horn Toyota in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and has had just three owners from new. A well-maintained original vehicle, it is equipped with a 4.2L 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission, and compared to other FJ-60s of its vintage, it has a surprisingly low 147,971 miles on its odometer. Popularly considered the most refined of the FJ-60 line, the 1987 model incorporates all of the running changes implemented by Toyota throughout the model’s lifespan, including a beefier transfer case.
Here, power steering, air conditioning and front and rear heaters combine for a comfortable cabin, and the flat-folding backseat allows for ample cargo space that rivals any modern SUV. A rust-free exterior and impressively clean original interior are nice departures from comparable examples, as so often these Land Cruisers were used and abused as multifunctional haulers and cross-country road trippers. Retaining its original Toyota radio in the dash along with a dealer-installed cassette deck in the proper location, both the inside and outside of this truck instantly take one back to 1987.
This FJ-60 was recently treated to an extensive professional servicing that included changing of fluids, valve adjustment, new custom radiator, new OE Toyota exhaust, four new tires and alignment, braking-system flush and a new air-conditioning compressor and conversion to R134A refrigerant. To further ensure that its lasting good looks are here to stay, this FJ-60’s chassis and surfaces were cleaned and treated with Boeing Boeshield rust-preventative coating. Vintage SUVs continue to gain in popularity, and a stunning final-year FJ-60 such as this is a rare find of one of the best and most legendary SUVs of all time.
