The FJ40 made considerable inroads into the Jeep market in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s. Toyota then shifted its focus to the rest of the world in the 1980s; the barebones FJ40 was built in Brazil as the Bandeirante, in Venezuela as the Macho, and Australia still offers the updated 70 series for their rugged terrain. The last FJ40’s were imported to the U.S. in 1983, after being replaced by a softer Land Cruiser SUV. Now, even the newest FJ40’s in the U.S. are 30 years old, and as survivors, they are becoming scarce and the prices are rising. The best examples are becoming more exclusive, especially those featuring high-grade restorations.

This 4.2-liter 2F inline six-cylinder engine is able to produce 135 horsepower to send through its mighty four-speed manual transmission. This rugged 4x4 automobile is equipped with power brakes to improve driving quality. A Sky Blue paint job and Cygnus White top make for a rare, yet correct color combination.

The owner explains that this FJ40 underwent a complete ground-up restoration; doors, hood, glass and top were removed. Parts were bead-blasted and new weather stripping and seals were installed. Everything in the engine bay has been powdercoated and re-zinced accordingly. Mechanically all new belts, seals and brake rotors have been integrated. All the wheels have been powdercoated as well as the rollbar, seat backs, jump seats, brackets and even the Cygnus grille. This FJ40 is complete and ready for its new owner.
