Introduced in October 1965, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was the first Rolls to employ unit-body construction. Displacement of the Silver Shadow V-8 engine was increased to 6.75 liters in 1970, with a corresponding increase to 220 horsepower. In addition to GM’s reliable 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission, the Silver Shadow also featured an innovative self-leveling hydraulic suspension system and dual-circuit braking to provide legendary ride quality in practically any driving conditions. While outwardly virtually identical to the early Silver Shadows, late-Seventies models featured over 2,000 improvements, all of which were incorporated in the new-for-1977 Silver Wraith.
The two-owner example offered here is a highly original Texas car that has been driven just 9,100 miles and has always been serviced at Park Place Motors in Dallas, Texas, the area’s authorized Rolls-Royce dealer. It was recently serviced there at a cost of $32,000 in maintenance and repairs, receipts for which are on file at Park Place. The car is exceptionally original, including the factory two-tone Ebony and Gold paint, Tan leather interior, Wilton wool carpets and wood veneers. This wonderful 1979 Silver Wraith is accompanied by all original books, tools and both sets of keys.
Having spent its entire life in Texas until its recent purchase by the current owner, this is a highly original example of the marque that has become known as “simply the best motorcar in the world.”
