To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Twingo in 2023, Renault planned several operations, including the creation of a number of show cars based on Twingos converted to run on electric power, using the EV kit developed by R-Fit. These kept the original gearbox, but in place of the four-cylinder petrol engine, they were fitted with an electric motor, batteries and all the controls necessary for a set-up of this type. They are, however, prototypes which were granted individual vehicle approval and cannot in any way be registered for road use by a new owner.
This Twingo is one of these special show cars and was inspired by the hip-hop culture of the West Coast of the United States, a provocative movement echoed in the ‘Gangsta crew’ name given to the car. Externally, it combines iridescent grey paintwork with gold accents and wheels, and a Twingo badge in Gothic characters inlaid with diamonds. The interior – the dashboard, door cards, steering wheel and console – is trimmed in a superb red leather, with light beige cloth for the seat cushions and diamond-shaped red buttons. An orange fabric sunroof adds the final touch to this absolutely spectacular car.
With the advantage of running as a zero-emission vehicle, this Twingo prototype is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive models produced, with impressive attention to detail. Comment: Crédit photos © Peter Singhof
