Driver-focused and available only with a 6-speed manual transmission, the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 represents a bold departure from Porsche’s perceived trajectory towards SUVs and sedans, back to the “Pur Sang” performance that has long stirred the souls of the most dedicated Porschephiles. Porsche’s vaunted engineering is as thoroughly thought out in the GT4 as in any of Porsche’s GT machines, beginning with a reinforced version of the standard Cayman body shell to handle the extra loads wrought by both the upgraded drivetrain and suspension and the full-width elevated rear wing, a carbon-reinforced polymer structure that adds a claimed 220 pounds of downforce at speed.
Power comes from the same direct-injected 3.8L/385 HP flat-6 engine used in the 911 Carrera S, here used in concert with the aforementioned 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential combined with Porsche Torque Vectoring. Front suspension and steering are sourced from the mighty 911 GT3, which also contributed its Porsche Active Suspension Management system and enormous vented disc brakes (in this case clamped by red calipers and fronted with unique 20-inch Satin Black alloy wheels wearing Bridgestone tires).
Bilstein shocks are used all around, the rear suspension has been both strengthened and lightened, and stiffer springs combined with adjustable sway bars capitalize on the GT4’s reduced ride height. A low-mileage example showing just 9,401 miles, this 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 is sharply turned out in Carrera White Metallic paint wrapped up front with PPF armoring for maximum protection.
The interior is typical Porsche GT-grade fare, presenting with carbon fiber bucket seats wrapped in black leather and Alcantara with contrasting Platinum Gray stitching, dual-zone automatic climate control, the smoking package, a passenger footwell net, CDR Plus audio system and a passenger footwell-mounted fire extinguisher.
