Porsche’s 911 evolution continued with the introduction of the 997 series in 2005, and it took a major leap forward with the 911 Turbo coupe in 2007. Twin turbochargers incorporating variable turbine geometry were a revolutionary Porsche first. Not one, but two intercoolers and a redesigned electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system met evolutionary form-meets-function turbocharged design in what Porsche called its new everyday supercar. This 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is equipped with performance upgrades from the factory and aftermarket arenas that improve the supercar experience.
The 3.6L DOHC 24-valve flat 6-cylinder engine was factory rated for 480 HP at 6,000 RPM and an improved 460 lb-ft of torque between 1,650-5,000 RPM as the result of variable turbine geometry. The ECU was upgraded with GIAC engine-tuning software for power-curve adjustability and to take full advantage of the increased flow and potential 25 HP gain from the AWE Tuning exhaust. The 6-speed manual gearbox channels power through a factory limited-slip differential.
Bilstein PSS10 DampTronic adjustable coilover suspension is compatible with the factory Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic PASM control module, and 4-wheel carbon-ceramic disc brakes wait to scrub off augmented turbo velocity. The 911 slices the air with a Cobalt Blue color-matched GT2 front bumper with rear downforce enhanced by way of the Vorsteiner carbon-fiber rear spoiler and bumper flanked by larger lateral rear inlets designed to draw more cooling air over the dual intercoolers. Sport bucket seats are centered by a factory Porsche short shifter in the Sand Biege leather-upholstered interior with the leather steering wheel offering greater adjustment over the 996.
Surround sound is available from the 13-speaker Bose audio system in the event the twin-turbocharged flat-6 soundtrack is insufficient. The 911 Turbo rides on factory turbo-exclusive 19-inch forged tri-spoke two-tone wheels outfitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
