This 1992 Porsche 964 Turbo S2 is one of just 20 built for competing in the IMSA Carrera Cup racing series. The S2 performance upgrades composing the S2 option package were installed primarily at Andial in Santa Ana, California. They included more aggressive camshafts, a larger K27 turbocharger mated to a larger and more efficient intercooler, and various pieces of hardware to support these performance bits, including a controlled slip differential. Stock 964 Turbo brakes, sourced from the 928 GTS and 944 Turbo S, were deemed more than sufficient to handle the on-track competition. For $10,065 in upgrades, Porsche advertised 322 HP at 6,200 RPM and 354 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 RPM.
In reality it was much healthier; a letter from Scottsdale Porsche that is included in this car’s documentation states that horsepower was actually in the range of 383 to 400 according to the Porsche factory, with a commensurate increase in torque. The S2 package was expensive, adding over $10,000 to the car’s price tag, but the difference is readily seen in the S2’s astounding performance. This well-documented 1992 964 Turbo S2 wears its original Black paint and features a Cashmere and Black interior with supple leather seats, a power sunroof, automatic climate control, power windows and locks and 5-speed manual transmission with controlled slip differential.
For Porschephiles who prefer an extra dose of power and performance, this rarity just might be the ultimate offering in the 964 lineage.
