  • Odometer: 5,651 miles
  • Engine: V-8
  • Transmission: Automatic

  • Interior: Gray/White
  • Body: Wagon
  • Odometer reads 5,651 miles
  • 389 CI V-8 engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • Power brakes
  • Power steering
  • Recent repaint in the original color of Cameo Ivory
  • Gray and White interior
  • Pontiac Super Deluxe pushbutton radio

Showing less than 6,000 miles on the odometer, this unrestored 1960 Pontiac Catalina Wagon presents as a stunning time capsule to another era of family transport. Finished in Cameo Ivory, the big wagon seems appointed to pull the Airstream to the campground or the Chris Craft to the lake with dual sideview mirrors, a 389 CI V-8, automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. The gray and white interior is prepared for family transport with rubberized floor coverings, two-tone vinyl seat covers and tinted glass, and a Pontiac Super Deluxe pushbutton radio set in the dashboard to provide the tunes.

Rolling on whitewall tires with steel wheels dressed with full-size polished hubcaps, the cargo load floor opens to reveal a spare tire and jack. How a utilitarian vehicle like a station wagon lasts for over six decades in unrestored condition with less than 6,000 miles showing on the odometer is impressive. This 1960 Catalina Wagon is the bird in the hand and ready to go. Station wagons were all too often considered a disposable family asset meant to be bought, used up and sent on their way to other owners or the salvage yard for picking. As such, few survived the rigorous lives they endured.

This one not only survived but thrived, and unique to that tune is that it’s not a topline Bonneville Safari but rather an entry-level Catalina with rubber floor coverings and crank windows, a car that otherwise might have been considered a fleet services car—cars that normally live a truly uncherished, anonymous life subjected to a multitude of abuses. This one seems to have endured beautifully.
