Pontiac’s Bonneville hit dealers’ showrooms in 1957 as the automaker’s top-of-the-line Chieftain. At the time, when Cadillac was king, a fully loaded Bonneville cost more than an entry level Cadillac. Being that only 630 Bonnevilles were built that year, it’s one of the most collectible Pontiacs of all time. The Bonneville would become its own model the following year, and in ensuing generations, remain well sought after. By the third generation, the Bonneville remained Pontiac's costliest and most luxurious model throughout the 1960s, and it was instrumental in pushing Pontiac to third place in sales from 1962 to 1970.
Restored in 2009 by Roush Special Vehicles in Michigan, this 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible is ready to drive or show with fresh Cream paint, all new chrome and, the piece de resistance, a new 461 CI V-8 replete with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake, good for 425 HP. A 4-speed 4L60E automatic transmission delivers the engine’s might to the 3.90 rear end, reaching the pavement via mint 8-lug finned 15-inch wheels with whitewall tires. The Bonneville has been treated to a new fuel tank, exhaust and suspension as well. Aside from the requisite power steering, take a glance at the radiator support—it’s signed by none other than the Cat in the Hat, Jack Roush.
Dropping the tan power convertible top shows off the incredible Saddle Morrokide interior with fawn insert and new carpet. The next driver of this Bonnie will enjoy the restored Saddle/Clear Lucite steering wheel, which frames the linear 120 MPH speedometer and fuel, clock and battery angled dash gauges. To keep accurate tabs on the engine’s vitals, a set of auxiliary water temperature, oil pressure and voltmeter gauges are affixed to the lower dash. A stereo and the addition of new window seals make this 1964 Bonneville ready for thousands of miles on the open road.
