1959 was a banner year for Pontiac by all accounts. Motor Trend magazine named Pontiac its “Car of the Year.” Pontiacs were victorious in many NASCAR stock car races including wins at both Daytona and Darlington. The clever “Wide-Track” tag line was first used in the brand’s advertising referring to Pontiac’s 4.5-inch wider front track that improved handling and roadability. 1959 marked the first year of Pontiac’s split grille which was to become a trademark of the brand until its passing some 60 years later. A total of 11,426 top-of-the-line Bonneville convertibles were produced for 1959 including this unique example which the consigner claims “is the only known ’59 Bonneville with original code LL Mandalay Red paint.”

Befitting its top-tier status, this Bonneville is equipped with Pontiac’s tri-power-equipped “Tempest 420” 389-cid, 345-hp V-8 backed up by a Super Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. This special extra-cost V-8 included a higher lift cam, low restriction exhaust and other performance enhancements. It retains its original tri-color jewel-tone Morrokide vinyl red-gray-white bucket seat-equipped interior which perfectly complements the red exterior. It is highlighted by optional fender skirts and a white convertible top. Adding to its desirability are power steering and brakes, power seat, AM radio with rear speaker and rare factory air conditioning; all of which make for the perfect boulevard cruiser.
