The slogan “Plymouth Makes It” was once used for marketing the line of performance vehicles released by the Chrysler brand back in the 1960s. The car offered here is far more than what emerged off the assembly line back in the day, however, as its carefully selected group of upgrades has made this 1969 Plymouth Satellite into a street-modified car of the highest order.
In fact, the original Road Runner was based on this exact same model, which led to the development of the “budget muscle car.” In this instance, the builder chose to turn the page forward when it came to the powertrain, as a fuel-injected 6.1L Hemi V-8 engine is now nestled down into the engine bay and topped with a faux “Coyote Duster” oval air cleaner. The engine features a functional conical air cleaner, a serpentine belt drive, a Champion radiator with electric fan, and TTI headers feeding dual exhaust. This is followed by a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission, a Dynotech driveshaft and a Dana differential.
Suspension changes include a Magnum Force front suspension conversion, a 4-link rear suspension, a raked stance and Wilwood power disc brakes. The exterior has been painted Snakeskin Green, offset with black accents and the notorious hood scoop. This is complemented by the black interior that uses bolstered front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, a wood-grain-tone Cuda-style steering wheel, and black lap belts. There is a cupholder worked into the floor next to the Pistol Grip shifter, plus a rebuilt 1969 GTX-type dash with 150 MPH speedometer and OEM-type tachometer.
Further interior highlights include fuel, voltage and coolant temperature gauges, an updated audio system, and restored dash and door panel upholstery. Other outside touches include the car’s big bumpers and grille, “HEMI” front fender emblems, rear panel blackout and side exhaust trumpets. In keeping with its other modern changes, this car wears 17-inch Year One Rallye wheels and a set of Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires. The Road Runner was a big seller in 1969, and this Satellite makes it with performance that is one step beyond.
