Built to replicate the version seen in “Fast 8: Fate of the Furious,” this stunning 1971 Plymouth GTX instantly displays that element of respect that makes people’s heads turn. The 1971 model year spelled the end for many of Chrysler’s most noteworthy engines and car packages, and this example has a matching-numbers 440 CI engine block. This was rebuilt, bored and honed for this nut-and-bolt restoration and build, which was completed in 2022. Topped with an Edelbrock intake, Holley Sniper EFI with self-tuning, black engine accessories and coated headers, the mill features a Beast serpentine kit, Wizard dual-fan cooling system, and Moroso ignition wires for the upgraded ignition.
A custom dual exhaust system with Borla mufflers finishes it off. Behind this is an A727 automatic transmission connected to the differential via a carbon fiber driveshaft. Suspension modifications include a Magnum Force 4-link suspension, a Hydroboost braking system with Wilwood disc brakes, and a Flaming River steering column and steering wheel. The classic lines of this body are now covered in custom BMW Jet Black paint with factory-like silver front fender graphic, while a Painless Performance wiring harness has also been installed.
The interior is fully reconfigured for enjoyment with well-upholstered seat covers embroidered with GTX headrest logos, a custom center console with LCD screen and pistol grip shifter, Vintage Air, a Dakota Digital custom gauge cluster, fresh dash and trim accents, and rich-toned carpeting. Outside are the 440 hood inserts, chrome GTX emblems, a rear spoiler, dual body-color outside mirrors, upgraded headlamps and 10-spoke Rushforth custom wheels, which wear modern low-profile radial rubber. The 1971 G-series body proved to be nearly as aerodynamic as the previous year’s Superbird in the wind tunnel, taking Richard Petty to the Grand National championship that year.
The GTX was the most upscale performance B-body in Plymouth’s arsenal, and this gorgeous Mopar carries both of those traditions forward, not only improving on its roots but showcasing movie star car infamy as well.
