There are certain cars that seem to have been made to be styled as hardtops, and the 1964 Plymouth B-series body like this offering is one of those. After all, this was the model that took Richard Petty to his Daytona 500 win that year, the model that represented the brand on the street in the top-of-the-line Sport Fury form (which this car is) and the model that would set up the brand as a true leader of 1960s muscle-car packaging. However, back then, one thing was lacking—the 426 Hemi engine design was only offered in competition models, and those drag cars would be based only on post coupes to save weight. That’s not so much the case here.

This reworked Resto Mod street machine is packing pachyderm heat, as the Chrysler’s second-generation “elephant motor” Hemi resides under its hood. In this case, it’s rated at 565 HP and decked out with an Air Grabber-style air cleaner bearing a custom logo, inline dual 4-barrel carburetors, chrome valve covers, blue Mopar plug wires and headers. Behind it is a reworked B&M TorqueFlite automatic transmission with a deep-sump cast pan and a chrome-detailed differential. The interior is “Sport Fury” deluxe, with factory bucket seats, the OEM console with floor shift, additional gauging to monitor engine functions, a tachometer mounted in the console and upgraded audio components.

Painted a sinister black-on-black, this car has factory tinted glass, a custom Hemi hood ornament, longitudinal outside trim moldings, driver’s-side mirror and chrome exhaust tips. Silverized headlamps complete a picture of early Rodding, and the 17-inch American Racing wheels give it a modern touch. With Toyo low-profile tires offering its pilot excellent road feel, the suspension is assisted by a Mopar disc-brake conversion. These cars are not common, as the Sport Fury trim line was the premium designation. Here is an example with custom touches, Hemi power and classic body lines, a Mopar machine certain to keep muscle in mind.
