Conceived and built from the ground up by Donn Lowe Customs of Oregon City, Oregon, this 1951 Plymouth Convertible harks back to the golden age of customized “lead sleds” popularized in the '50s and '60s. The car’s PPG Lemon Yellow Pearl paint is laid over exquisitely smoothed and massaged body work that included filling the seams, smoothing all surfaces, shortening the trunk, rounding the door corners and reshaping the front grille, hood, head and tail light openings. Lucas headlights, a 1955 Willys grille and first-generation Camaro bumper were used up front, while the back was finished with the tail lights and rear bumper from a 1953 Lincoln.
A 2-inch chop was taken out of the windshield and a custom White convertible top was added to match the all-White interior, which is trimmed with Yellow piping and features six-way power seats, a Colorado Customs steering wheel on a tilt-telescopic column, a custom dash with Classic Instruments gauges and a Vintage Air system with billet knobs. In addition, the car is fitted with a remote door popper and trunk-mounted six-CD changer for the multi-speaker sound system. Power is delivered by a Plymouth 340 CI Tri-Power engine teamed with a 904 automatic transmission and narrowed 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix rear axle.
Also fitted with Sanderson headers and Smitty's mufflers, the 340’s finned air cleaners and valve covers feature color-matching Yellow accents. Suspended on adjustable Air Ride Technologies air bags, the car cruises in style on Colorado Customs wheels wrapped in Coker wide-Whitewall radials.
