In 1970, the Cuda, like the car seen here, became one of the hottest things Plymouth ever offered for the performance enthusiast. This true Hemi Cuda features a matching-numbers 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine. While there were versions that could be optioned with handling in mind, most buyers were more interested in raw acceleration. In that case, the ultimate powerplant was the engine that had dominated on the drag strips and NASCAR tracks—the 426 Hemi. In 1970, that still meant dual 4-barrel carburetors, a strong competition-derived block and reciprocating facility, and the new hydraulic cam design that significantly reduced the valvetrain maintenance needs of prior Street Hemi releases.

Here, the engine resides under the quivering Shaker hood scoop, and this Hemi Cuda has the correct exhaust with resonators and bright tips exiting via the rear valance. Behind the powerplant is the A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, making this car one of 368 automatic Hemi Cuda hardtops produced during the 1970 model season. Moreover, the driveline is completed by the A34 Super Performance Axle Package, which gave the car a 4.10 Dana 60 Sure Grip differential, power front disc brakes and extreme-duty cooling components. Like all Hemi cars that year, the suspension was more robust than more pedestrian versions.

This Cuda is refinished in the original color combination of Blue Fire Metallic with black hockey stripe HEMI graphics, and inside is black vinyl upholstery with bucket seats, a center console with wood-grain trim, a Slap-Stik floor shifter, a wood-grain steering wheel, a Solid State AM radio and the remote left-side body-color sport mirror. Ordering the Cuda package meant front road fog lamps and hood pins, but the special exterior moldings package with ribbed rocker covers came on this Hemi-specific example as well. Completing the look are 15-inch Rallye road wheels hosting G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.

This car has a true factory Shaker hood with a highly detailed engine bay and undercarriage, and provenance includes a Chrysler Registry report detailing the original fender tag verification and decoding.
