The ideal car: we all know that answer is subject to the desire, even whim, of the beholder, but somebody back in 1970 had a pretty good idea what an ideal car may have been when ordering this first-year Cuda. This 1970 Plymouth Cuda is a true V-code 440 6-BBL car, built with a 4-speed and Dana 60 differential. The first thing one will notice, of course, is the FY1 Lemon Twist Yellow paint, mated with a black 440-logo hockey stripe and black interior. Under its sport hood with scallop scoop trim, a correct 440 6-BBL V-8 engine with date-correct heads and intake resides beneath the oval air cleaner, where 1350 CFM of Holley 3×2 carburation easily feeds the big engine.
TTI factory-spec exhaust with dual chrome tips finish it up. Behind this is the D21 4-speed A833 manual transmission and A34 Super Track Pack with the legendary 4.10 final gear ratio in the Dana 60 rear axle, itself upgraded with performance axles. The A34 package also added front power disc brakes and extreme-duty cooling accessories, and the correct 26-inch radiator is still in front of the engine. Beneath this car, correct suspension components with powdercoating maintain the car’s curbside stance.
Inside, this Cuda features high-back, premium-grade, leather bucket seats, correct black carpet, the factory gauge cluster, a correct AM radio, wood-grain-trimmed dash and console, and the Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. Outside are the Cuda pieces—hood pins, model displacement callout tags, fog lamps and rocker brightwork—with optional dual chrome outside mirrors and 15-inch, body-color wheels with poverty hubcaps and BF Goodrich raised white-letter radial tires finishing it up. Even a correct space saver spare tire with inflator bottle remains in the trunk. For those looking for fast times or proven beauty in a muscle car that can truly turn heads, consider this Cuda—it’s ideal.
