The rules for legalizing racing components during the American supercar years resulted in several limited-production cars that would have otherwise never existed, and the first-year E-body AAR Cuda was one of them. To make pieces eligible for SCCA’s 1970 Trans-Am series, a total of 2,724 “All American Racers” models were produced, creating a combination of special parts that would never occur again. This car is documented with the original Broadcast Sheet, its Chrysler dealer invoice, two fender tags and a five-page decoding report from E-Bodies.org. Moreover, receipts from its full rotisserie restoration in 2016 will be included as well.
Certainly the most desirable small-block Plymouth ever created, part of the car’s attractiveness is the 340/290 HP engine, exclusive to the Trans-Am series involvement. Topped with a factory 6-BBL (3×2) Holley layout, this particular LA-series engine package is unmistakable in appearance. In this instance, an A727 automatic transmission is installed behind it, with a 3.55 Sure Grip 8.75 differential behind that. This car retains the correct side-exit exhaust exiting in chrome tips, as well as power disc brakes and power steering for increased handling.
The exterior is painted in the correct High Impact Lemon Twist paint, stunningly accented with the black fiberglass hood, front and rear spoiler package, body-length strobe stripe and black vinyl top. This car’s new black interior is highlighted with genuine leather bucket seats, a center console with round-knob shifter, Rallye instruments including optional tachometer and gauges, a wood-grain steering wheel, premium factory AM 8-track stereo with rear-mount antenna, remote outside mirror and extra-cost rear window defogger.
Other premium parts are fender-mounted signal indicators, functional hood pins, under-bumper road lamps and 15-inch Rallye road wheels with upgraded BF Goodrich Radial TA tires. The company competed in the SCCA series for only part of the 1970 year, leaving the AAR model as its most stellar remembrance. Complete with a highly detailed engine bay and undercarriage with close attention paid to superior fitment during the car’s reassembly, this AAR showcases a wonderful combination of color, optional equipment and market desirability.
