After two seasons in Rally Raid and a victory in the 2016 Dakar with Stéphane Peterhansel, the 2008 DKR is replaced by the 3008 DKR. It will make its first appearance on the Rally of Morocco in September 2016.
Apart from the name, the 3008 DKR obviously has nothing to do with the production version of the Peugeot 3008. Tall as a man, wider than a Lamborghini Aventador and no longer than a compact sedan, it’s a fierce and intimidating monster. The 3008 DKR is also a technologically advanced monster, with a super imposing size and a total weight of only 1580 kg. The tubular frame is made of steel and all the body parts are made of carbon fiber. Every detail is thought out according to the constraints of the race and the evolution of the course. Nevertheless, this does not prevent the Peugeot Sport teams from capitalizing on proven technologies.
Thus, a part of the electronics of the Peugeot 908 was recovered. The 3008 DKR is equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 engine with 350 bhp located in mid rear position. The 800 Nm of torque it generates are transmitted to the rear wheels alone by means of a sequentially controlled 6-speed gearbox. Faced with its main rivals, Mini and Toyota, the Peugeot Sport teams did not have an easy race. Nevertheless, the French team was able to rely on its experience gained in previous editions, allowing it to win the 2017 edition with Stéphane Peterhansel and 2018 with Carlos Sainz. It is after these 3 consecutive victories that Peugeot Sport will withdraw from the Rally Raid.
The example we present is a 3008 DKR Maxi| indeed the 3008 has undergone an evolution in 2018 following the modification of the technical regulations by the FIA. In order to remain competitive with 4WD vehicles, Peugeot Sport has modified the suspension of the beast. The lower and upper suspension wishbones, connecting rods and driveshafts have been changed which has widened the suspension kinematics by 10 cm per side. With its 2m40 width, the 3008 gains in stability and its dynamics are improved.
After 3 successive participations with Peugeot Sport, the crew Sébastien Loeb / Daniel Elena returned to the 2019 Dakar but this time with the private team PH Sport. It is at the wheel of the car that we present that they win 4 of the 10 stages of the rally, forming the most performing crew of the competition. However, this was not enough to win the event, as they finished the rally on the 3rd step of the podium. This high-performance car showed its full racing potential. Completely reconditioned, it is ready to take the start of your next rally-raid.
