Based on a quarter-scale model created by legendary designer Howard “Dutch” Darrin in only 10 days, Packard’s first Clipper not only helped reverse sagging sales but also set in motion thoroughly modern styling trends incorporating lower, wider, integrated bodies with cleaner, sweeping lines. No more separate bolt-on fenders, and obsolete running boards were all but gone, too, hidden away behind contoured rocker panels. After rolling out the original Clipper to rave reviews midyear in 1941—initially only in straight-8, four-door sedan form—Packard opted to apply Clipper styling to much of its line in both its Six and Eight ranks for 1942.
Accentuating the smooth, lovely Clipper shape even further that year was a new swoopy two-door body, a Club Sedan, commonly called a Sedanette. This straight-6 Club Sedan rolls on a 120-inch wheelbase. Behind its pointed prow is a 245 CI L-head engine rated at 105 HP.
