L'idée d'un trophée français sur glace a pris forme quand le pilote professionnel Max Mamers (Champion de France de Rallycross en 1982 et 1983 sur Talbot Matra Murena) et le propriétaire de la société Andros (producteur de confitures et de compotes), Frédéric Gervoson, tous deux fans de rugby se rencontrèrent en 1985. Ils passèrent l'hiver suivant à courir avec des amis sur des circuits de glace.
Le 27 janvier 1990, l'idée du trophée se concrétisa à Serre-Chevalier, une station de ski du sud de la France, qui accueillit la première des quatre épreuves. Le trophée s'étendit rapidement avec une épreuve à Paris (sur la pelouse de Reuilly) en 1991, créant ainsi un trophée en cinq manches, suivi d'un championnat en sept manches en 1992 puis en huit manches par la suite. En 2003, le trophée acquit une dimension internationale avec une épreuve à Sherbrooke au Canada, qui se tint pendant trois saisons successives. Pour la saison 2005/2006, le trophée resta national, à l'exception d'une manche en Andorre.
Les voitures qui couraient dans le Trophée Andros étaient globalement aux caractéristiques des voitures de rallye international, les prototypes utilisés dans les années 1990 et 2000 étant comparables avec celles du fameux Groupe B. Le trophée accueillit des pilotes de toutes les disciplines de la compétition automobile, le plus brillant étant le quadruple champion du monde de tourisme Yvan Muller avec 10 victoires. Les autres participants remarquables furent Alain Prost, Olivier Panis, Romain Grosjean, Jacques Villeneuve, René Arnoux, Michel Ferté, Markku Alen, Ari Vatanen et Jean-Louis Schlesser.
Cette Opel Astra 3.0 V6 a été préparée en 1994 par Snobeck Racing pour Opel Motorsport. La voiture est équipée d'un moteur V6 3 litres de 345 ch, installé au centre longitudinalement, et d'une transmission aux quatre roues à boîte séquentielle X-Trac à six rapports. L'une des caractéristiques les plus intéressantes est sa direction aux quatre roues qui donne incontestablement une tenue de route appréciable sur la glace ou la neige !
Selon le vendeur, cette voiture a été pilotée par quelques-uns des plus grands noms de la compétition, notamment le champion du monde des rallyes Markku Alen et le multiple participant au Mans Michel Ferté. Après un séjour dans une collection privée, la voiture a été achetée par le vendeur il y a trois ans, date à laquelle elle a été révisée et mise en route pour la dernière fois. Elle sera incontestablement un ajout de qualité à n'importe quelle collection de voitures de rallye et procurera beaucoup de plaisir si son prochain propriétaire décide de l'emmener faire un tour sur la glace. La voiture est vendue avec un ancien passeport de la FFSA (Fédération Française du Sport Automobile).

The idea of a French ice-racing series was first hatched when professional racing driver Max Mamers (French Rallycross Champion in 1982 and 1983 with Talbot Matra Murena) and the owner of the Andros company (jam and compote producers), Frédéric Gervoson, met as rugby fans in 1985. They spent the following winter racing with friends on ice circuits.
On 27th January 1990, the idea of the series bore fruit at Serre Chevalier, a major ski resort in south-eastern France, which hosted the first of four rounds. The series quickly expended, with a round at Paris (Pelouse de Reuilly) in 1991 creating a five-round series, followed by a seven-round championship in 1992 and later an eight-round championship. In 2003, the trophy gained an international dimension with a race at Sherbrooke in Canada, which would be held for three seasons. For the 2005/2006 season, the trophy remained mainly national, the exception being one round held in Andorra.
Cars competing in the Trophée Andros were broadly to international rallying specification, the prototypes used during the 1990s and 2000s being comparable with those built for the infamous Group B. The series attracted drivers from all branches of motor sport, the most successful being four-time World Touring Car Champion Yvan Muller with 10 victories. Other notable participants include Alain Prost, Olivier Panis, Romain Grosjean, Jacques Villeneuve, René Arnoux, Michel Ferté, Markku Alen, Ari Vatanen, and Jean-Louis Schlesser.
This Opel Astra 3.0 V6 was prepared in 1994 by Snobeck Racing for Opel Motorsport. The car features a centrally located and longitudinally mounted 3.0-litre V6 engine producing some 345bhp, with four-wheel drive and an X-Trac sequential six-speed gearbox. One of the more interesting features is the four-wheel steering, which certainly makes for interesting handling on snowy and icy surfaces!
According to the vendor, this car has been driven by some of the biggest names in motor racing, including World Rally Champion Markku Alen and many-time Le Mans participant Michel Ferté. After spending some time in a private collection, the car was purchased by the current vendor some three years ago, which was when it was checked and last started. It would certainly make an interesting addition any rally car collection, and surely will be lots of fun should the next owner choose to use it in anger again on an icy track. The car is offered with a copy of an old FFSA (Fédération Française du Sport Automobile) passport.
