After building nine prototypes, each undergoing a relentless battery of tests and enduring a seemingly never-ending series of back-and-forths with various team members, Charles Morgan, grandson of the company founder, H.F.S. Morgan, finally unveiled the Aero 8 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2000. It was extremely important to get the Aero 8 right, as it was Morgan’s first all-new car since the company announced the +4+ at the 1963 Earl’s Court Motor Show. While the +4+ was notably quick and modern, sales were dismal and just 26 were built. The +4+ was a constant, very clear and painful reminder as to why Morgan remained so charmingly allergic to change.

It absolutely didn’t want a repeat performance, and this time, the stakes were even higher as Morgan was touting the Aero 8 as a supercar, the first in Morgan’s lengthy history. Early models eclipsed the 0-60 MPH run in less than 5 seconds and topped near 160 MPH, improving as time went on. Production spanned between 2000 and 2018 in five series, each improving on the other in various ways, ranging from stiffness and rigidity to performance, and by the end of days, between 1,200 and 1,300 were sold. This 2007 example is a Series 3, of which about 200 built.

Used by the Morgan factory to introduce the Aero 8 to America at the 2007 Los Angeles International Auto Show, this 2007 Morgan Aero 8 was displayed in 2009 as the featured model at the Petersen Museum’s tribute to the marque celebrating 100 years of Morgan production. Morgan West arranged the sale of this Aero 8 from the original owner, a well-known Morgan collector who ordered the car painted in Bentley Continental Blue Metallic with a Dark Blue TwilFast convertible top. The Biscuit leather interior is detailed with darker blue piping, sharply contrasting the carpeting, which is darker blue with Biscuit piping.

The dashboard is set with an engine-turned aluminum facing and features an Alpine stereo and a full complement of gauges. Passengers will appreciate the air conditioning, cruise control and heated windshield along with the spectacular sound, performance and silky smooth operation of the 4.4L/286 HP BMW M62 V-8 engine and 6-speed Getrag manual transmission. The hugely capable chassis is made of aluminum and comprised of a fully independent suspension, double wishbones, Eibach coil springs, a fully-floating rear axle over Koni shocks and 4-wheel disc brakes with AP Racing calipers.
