Restored to original showroom condition and one of 250 cars chosen by the AACA as the best restoration of 2014. Car has been shown at four National events; receiving a First Junior and a First Senior at two Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) events and a Dearborn Award at each of two Early Ford V8 Club of America events, scoring 981 points out of 1,000 at the last showing. This was a frame-off restoration that has been driven less than 50 miles since completion. The frame and front suspension parts were powder coated.
The body and floor pan were rust-free with the following NOS: grille, both front fenders, both front inner fender panels, right rear fender, all four gravel guards, both doors and the trunk lid. Paint is Claret Maroon, the original color from the factory. The engine is an original 1939 Mercury engine bored out to 3-5/16' with a 4' Mercury crank increasing displacement to 275cid from the original 239cid. All components were balanced with an auxiliary support on the middle bearing. Later model straight valves were used with solid valve guides and Johnson adjustable lifters. A Howard cam with 253° of duration and 0.381' of lift was installed.
Water pumps were modified with redesigned impellers and modern seals for better engine cooling. The muffler and tailpipe are NOS. The interior and convertible top are from LeBaron Bonney consisting of red leather seats, maroon carpet and black top with red binding. This car is equipped with a bulletproofed Columbia 2-speed overdrive rear end.
