The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter first hit the market in Europe in 1995, replacing the Mercedes-Benz TN van, which was introduced in the 1970s. Offering a smoother, more aerodynamic design over the TN, the Sprinter was larger and more powerful, and it featured a more robust chassis, suspension and electrical system. All things told, it was a fabulously versatile van, able to be pretty much anything for anyone. Freightliner offered them as complete knockdown kits, with Mercedes-Benz sending the components stateside for reassembly, which avoided the 25% importation “Chicken Tax” established during the 1960s.
With Dodge needing a new van, it was only natural to adapt the Sprinter since Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler Corporation were merged at the time. As such, customers could choose from three brands to buy a Sprinter. Over the years, the Sprinter has evolved well, keeping with its reputation of offering something for everyone. It wasn’t long before customizers began churning out their versions of the Sprinter with interiors rivaling the finest hotels, paints fit for the finest luxury cars and technology to match. From corporate limousines to camping off-road vehicles, the Sprinter seemed to fill every niche available. Such is the case with this 2017 Sprinter 2500.
Presented in silver, it is powered by the 3.0L diesel engine and automatic transmission, and it looks to be the ultimate getaway vehicle. Having covered just 15,000 miles, it is fitted with a roof rack and light bar, brush guard and winch, Rotopax jerry cans and a Dometic awning. It also has a mini fridge, Webasto heater, Dometic slide-out cargo drawer and cooler, as well as a potable water sink. A pop-up roof allows for a more spacious feel and extra headroom, while a foldable bed at the rear provides for a comfortable night’s sleep while in the rough.
Captain’s chairs are upholstered in black, and technology abounds, including a touch-screen entertainment center with USB, HDMI, Bluetooth capability and navigation. JL audio subwoofer and Focal speakers provide crisp and clear audio. Ensuring easier terrain traversing, the Sprinter rides on a customized chassis with a lift kit and more aggressive tires for improved grip.
