Introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show as the modern successor to the divine 300SL Gullwing coupe, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG became an instant classic. Following the same path established by the 300SL, in 2011 Mercedes-Benz began production of a roadster version which, like the 300SL Roadster, was an even sleeker variant of the theme. The first Mercedes-Benz designed completely in-house at AMG, the roadster was the last to use AMG’s M159 6.3L V-8 engine, a race-engineered powerhouse driving 583 HP at 6,800 RPM and 479 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 RPM through Mercedes-Benz’s first dual-clutch sequential paddle-shift gearbox to a limited-slip differential.
The spiritual revival of the classic Gullwing and its roadster sibling came to a close in 2015 with the issuance of 350 special Final Edition models, with worldwide production limited to 200 coupes and 150 roadsters, only 10 of the latter produced for the U.S. market. Offered in highly original condition, this Iridium Silver 2015 Final Edition roadster shows off all the unique features that comprise the $18,000 SLS AMG GT Final Edition Package, the most evident being the carbon fiber hood, rear wing, front spoiler, mirrors, door sills and console. Less obvious is the rare carbon fiber engine surround that lends an extra measure of visual refinement under the hood.
Factory fitted with the optional AMG Ride Control sport suspension, the car rides on AMG black 10-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged lightweight wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber, also unique to the Final Edition Package. The aircraft-inspired cockpit boasts black leather with silver stitching and seatbelts, diamond-stitched bucket seats and door inserts, mirror-finish carbon fiber accents, an AMG leather and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and a $6,400 Bang and Olufsen sound system.
