Italian title - Superbly preserved - 2.8-litre engine, original manual gearbox - Very original shade This car has a rich Italian history: it comes with its original "libretto" and is fitted with its period black registration plates (Targa nera)! Sold new in Palermo, it received the registration PA 634042, and it was in its incredible state of preservation that seduced our collector. It came out of the factory in "Sandbeige 467" color and it has the look of one that is freshly out of the factory.

Originally fitted with a manual gearbox, it has dark brown upholstery, the combination of which with the body color gives this car a particularly chic look. A period Becker Europa car radio adorns the superb dashboard, the refinement of which is underlined by the wood trim that follows the shape of the windscreen. Never completely restored, this car has the advantage of having been extremely well preserved throughout its existence.

Launched in the 230 SL form, this model, which owes its nickname "Pagoda" to the curved shape of its hard-top (absent for this car), has seen its mechanicals evolve: after the initial 2.3-litre 6-cylinder injection engine, it was powered by a 2.5 liter, and then, the ultimate version such as this one on offer, featured a 170bhp 2.8. The model is at its best in this form, with a smooth operation that fits perfectly with the touring car aspiration of this very elegant automobile. Photos © Loïc Kernen
