The wizards of Affalterbach, creators of the AMG company in 1967 which became the official engine tuner for Mercedes-Benz in 1999. The Mercedes-Benz W221 was the chassis code of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the successor of the S-Class W220. The S-Class are the flagship vehicles of Mercedes-Benz and each generation typically introduces a range of technical innovations and developments that over time will find their way into smaller cars. Despite no changes having been made to the engine data and performance values, it has still been possible to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to three percent. The S65 continued to use the five-speed gearbox, because it can handle the higher torque of the engine, as opposed to the seven-speed transmission.
