The Mercedes 500 E is a myth, and despite the disenchantment it has suffered for several years, enlightened enthusiasts who have carefully preserved their cars have not been mistaken: the sedan assembled at Porsche had the potential of a true collector's item from its birth. And yet... That's without counting on Mercedes' historic preparer, AMG. Once in the hands of the tuner, the cocktail will simply be explosive. In 1993, after the third and final restyling of the W124, 12 units of the E60 were first assembled directly at AMG, they are retrospectively called the E60 Limited.
These rare examples were sold at a high price by the firm and were so successful that several hand-picked customers demanded similar models. Mercedes then offered them the possibility of delivering new E 500s to AMG for modification by AMG. The displacement of the V8 rises to 6 litres for 381 hp, the car gets a sportier AMG suspension or special AMG wheels. All competitors are simply swept aside. Only about 126 units will be produced. The AMG W124 E60 thus combines all the ingredients of the rare pearl: a special engine, a power output that was unrivalled at the time, very limited production and, above all, a hardened steel character.
The model we are presenting for sale is an authentic Mercedes-Benz E60 AMG. It was modified in the workshops of the German tuner in 1994 following an order from AMG Japan. It was fitted with a 6-litre M119 V8 engine with a special exhaust system, AMG suspension, 17-inch wheels, a speedometer with a scale up to 300 km/h, and an AMG steering wheel. Our E60 is now in superb condition, with a beautiful blue-black metallic livery, which, combined with its wide fenders and AMG wheels, gives it a totally bestial look. Inside, the wood trim has retained a shimmering sheen and the black leather is barely patinated.
The car is equipped with numerous options such as the sunroof, electric front seats with memory, and automatic climate control. Our W124 arrived in Europe in 2016, and comes with its maintenance booklet and user manuals. E60 AMGs are quite rare on the market, especially with a mileage of less than 76,000 km. Our model therefore deserves the interest of the most demanding collectors. Its exclusivity and intrinsic qualities make it undoubtedly one of the most desirable youngtimers in German production.
