Americans have always had a penchant for convertibles, especially those that can effortlessly cruise the miles of vast highways for which this nation is known. Knowing this, Max Hoffman, legendary importer of European luxury automobiles, persuaded the management of Mercedes-Benz to produce a simpler, less costly, and open model inspired by the magnificent 300 SL coupe. Mercedes-Benz took advantage of the opportunity and designed a stylish four-cylinder convertible which clearly drew design inspiration from the iconic “Gullwing.”

The car offered here is a stunningly beautiful example of this comfortable yet spirited convertible. It has been recently restored to concours standards by one of the finest Mercedes-Benz specialty shops in the country, Sports Leicht Restorations of Moore County, North Carolina. No expense has been spared to ensure that this 190 SL is one of the finest examples available anywhere. It has been fully disassembled to the bare tub to ensure that every inch, both top and bottom, of the car is as perfect as the next. Every mechanical component on the car has been rebuilt or replaced with proper Mercedes-Benz NOS parts.

The factory-correct DB 350 Medium Blue paint is flawless, as is the interior, which was fully redone in the correct Roser hides in the proper shade of tan leather. Proper square weave carpeting, also in tan, completes the impeccably presented and luxurious interior.

Nicely equipped with a Becker High Fidelity radio, whitewall tires, and a proper black soft top along with the optional body color hardtop, this car is a reliable and capable performer suitable for touring, showing, or for taking part in a regional concours. Included with the sale is an original Mercedes-Benz factory owner’s manual, a tool kit, and a file of restoration documents and invoices documenting some $91,000 in restoration work.

Without question, this car is worthy of someone chasing the finer things in life. It is the epitome of Mercedes-Benz engineering and timeless style and will be a fine companion on the road ahead.
