Showing just over 700 miles on the odometer, this 1988 Mazda RX-7 Turbo 10th Anniversary is presented in highly original condition and is one of just 1,500 produced to commemorate 10 years of RX-7 production. Special monochrome Crystal White paint covers the exterior, including the wheels and many badges. Equipped with a sunroof and factory bronze tinted glass, special black and bronze 10th-anniversary badging further identifies this RX-7 as something unique.
Powered by the original turbocharged 1.3L/182 HP 13B rotary engine and original 5-speed manual transmission, it is fitted with a black leather interior complete with supportive bucket seats, a center console, air conditioning, a Mazda premium full logic sound system with a graphic equalizer, a factory Momo shift knob, power windows and power mirrors. Complete with factory literature, a clean CarFax, the window sticker and Rotary Rocket 10th Anniversary magazine, this 10th anniversary RX-7 remained with the original selling dealer’s family until 2023. With Datsun taking the Z upmarket as the 280ZX, it created a vacuum for a small, lightweight, nimble sports car.
It was the perfect storm for Mazda to introduce the all-new RX-7. Smaller than the Z and offering exquisite near 50/50 weight balance, it was modern with popup headlights and an impossibly pointed nose. It won hearts and accolades immediately and quickly began taking wins at various races. Its own following quickly ensued, and Mazda, one of the underdogs of the Japanese auto manufacturers, proved again that it had what it took to compete with much larger manufacturers. For 1986, Mazda introduced a newly designed RX-7 with more modern styling and aerodynamics, a larger cabin, more power and a more agile chassis.
It would be upon this that the special 10th-anniversary edition would be produced, of which just 1,500 copies were built, celebrating RX-7’s many successes.
