As Maserati's archive department has confirmed, this Merak left the factory on 3 February 1973; in ‘Copper’ with a tan leather interior, it was sold in the Bologna region in Italy. A characteristic of the first versions, it is fitted with the dashboard from the Citroën SM; only 630 such cars are believed to have been built. The records for its safety inspections on Histovec indicate that the odometer was reading 65,111km in 1996, then 75,604km in 2022 and 76,382km at the time of our inspection. The car was resprayed red in the past, and the seats have been retrimmed in black leather. A Momo gear knob, two accessory aluminium pedals and a radio/CD player have been fitted.

As the car had been used little of late, it was an overhaul in August 2025 including fluid changes, engine tuning, replacement of tie rods and steering ball joints, front end alignment, brake bleeding, and replacement of the pressure accumulator. Now in good working order, this breathtaking Maserati is ready to go back into action and delight its new owner.
