Inspired by the creations of Lincoln and Ford designer Eugene “Bob” Gregorie, coachbuilt marques and the streamlined machines of the era, this custom-crafted 1941 Zephyr sedan delivery and 1955 BMW motorcycle are the culmination of a collaborative effort by premier designers, builders and engineers. The harmonious Art Deco duo was years in the making and formerly part of a collection held by former Hot Rod and Car Craft magazine editor Terry Cook, who spearheaded the design and extensive build. Roger Austin of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, created the Zephyr sedan delivery, blending 1939 Deco Rides fiberglass body panels with 1941 front fenders, hood and nose.

Austin engineered the remote-controlled butterfly side doors, rear hatch and electrically operated 9-foot aluminum ramp that deploys on linear rails with the touch of a button. The Zephyr is dressed in Hot Rod Black matte paint by Medallion, chrome beltline trim and nerf bars. Nick’s Creations of Port Orange, Florida, fitted the handcrafted interior into the cabin with a 1962 Chrysler 300 “Goldfish Bowl” instrument cluster as a control and command centerpiece. Air conditioning, power windows, cupholders and a rearview camera with a dash-mounted screen add contemporary comfort and convenience. The Zephyr is powered by a reworked 4.0L V6 and 4-speed gearbox sourced from a Ford Ranger 4×4.

The rear driveline and axle were shelved to make room for the motorcycle ramp, and the transfer case drives the front wheels. Four-corner independent airbag suspension delivers a driver-adjustable ride. The bare-aluminum 1955 BMW 750 streamliner is the culmination of a collaboration between Terry Cook, designer Larry Erickson and fabricator Kyle Yocum of Yocum’s Signature Hot Rods in Sunbury, North Carolina. Erickson, who designed the 2005 Ford Mustang and ZZ Top’s 1948 “CadZZilla” Cadillac, removed the original BMW tank and bodywork and fabricated the final design buck.

Yocum hand-shaped and formed the 0.060 burnished aluminum body and installed a smaller-diameter front wheel and tire combination for a tighter turning radius. BMW “airhead” engine specialist David Woodburn of Barnsley Motor Works in Ephesus, Georgia, overhauled and balanced the horizontally opposed twin-cylinder and transmission with larger pistons, rebuilt carburetors and vapor-blasted components. Frenched 1939 Ford headlights and 1941 Hudson tail lights visually tie the matte black sedan delivery and bare metal BMW motorcycle together. Custom contoured exhaust echoes style and sound. This one-of-a-kind duo is now set to cross the block in harmony.
