Presented in highly original and unrestored condition, this 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Club Coupe spent roughly 50 years of its life toggling between three museums, largely accounting for its untouched state. A small battery of vintage oil change stickers remains affixed to the door, attesting to its originality. The original chrome shines beautifully against the light blue exterior while the interior coddles passengers with front and rear bench seats, power windows and a radio. The flathead V-8 engine is backed by an automatic transmission, and the car rolls on wide whitewall tires with steel wheels and full-diameter wheel covers.

For 1949, an extraordinarily modern pontoon body design pulled Lincoln vehicles dramatically away from their earlier styling, which was introduced before World War II. Heavily streamlined, the new Lincoln exuded momentum and motion, and used only sparse trim and décor for a clean, uncluttered look, such is tradition in Lincoln styling. Furthering the drama, the ultra-exclusive Continental would cease production, and Lincoln would offer just two models for 1949, the Lincoln and the top-of-the-line Cosmopolitan.

Loyalists would write letters about bringing the Continental back, but as the company restructured and reorganized and looked for ways to restore its finances, it was thought that exceedingly expensive cars only detracted from the bottom line. The styling would sustain through 1951, and likely the rarest of those streamlined designs would be the 2-door Cosmopolitan like this one.
