Beginning as a customized Zephyr for Edsel Ford, the Lincoln Continental was the brainchild of Edsel Ford and executed by Ford's chief stylist, Bob Gregorie. It was introduced in 1940 as a limited, well-appointed, handcrafted automobile for the prestige oriented consumer. The ensuing years have seen the Continental become one of the most recognizable Lincoln nameplates in their lengthy history. With the long front end to cover the V-12 engine and the abbreviated trunk with the spare tire mounted on the back, the Continental is instantly recognizable. This well preserved cabriolet model is exceptionally clean and well detailed.

The early Continental has been recognized by the Museum of Modern Art as one of eight automotive 'works of art' and by Time magazine as one of the top ten best-designed commercial products.
