French vehicle registration document Tuned racing car, featuring a roll cage, sold without an MOT Launched in 1979, the Lancia Delta is a compact saloon designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was an instant success and was awarded the title of European Car of the Year in 1980. The basic version was followed by the GT, HF Turbo, S4 (Group B homologation), HF 4WD, the first Integrale which won the World Rally Championship in 1987, then the HF Integrale (1988 title) and the HF Integrale 16v in 1989. In 1991, the first evolution of the Delta HF Integrale appeared, contributing to an eleventh world title the following year. The final evolution in the line-up, the Evoluzione 2, was launched in 1993.

Its Lampredi 4-cylinder turbo engine produced 215 hp and 320 Nm from 2,500 rpm. That same year, Auriol, Kankkunen and sponsor Martini left Lancia; the Deltas then sported Repsol colours. 1993 also marked their final season in competition. Across all versions, the Delta racked up 46 WRC victories and enabled Lancia to secure six consecutive manufacturers’ titles. The Lancia Delta featured in these pages is an authentic EVO 2, one of the last to be built, constructed entirely as a faithful replica of Carlos Sainz’s legendary Repsol Group A car. Built over several years by a Lancia enthusiast, it was completed in 2015.

Following this work, a VHC conversion faithful to the Gr A specification was carried out: welded bodywork, Abarth-style reinforcements, Sparco multi-point roll cage, Abarth-style anti-roll bars on ball joints; the engine was overhauled: a lighter block without a balance shaft, forged connecting rods and pistons, a balanced crankshaft, bespoke electronic programming, Garrett TB035 turbo, Abarth-style intercooler, etc. … the list goes on, and the power output has been boosted to a truly monstrous 310 horsepower. The chassis has also been completely redesigned with bespoke suspension and camber settings.

The rear axle is a work of art: four Abarth-style ball-jointed swing arms are combined with two lower longitudinal arms. Braking is handled by highly effective AP Racing calipers, capable of reining in this machine’s fiery nature. Our Delta then changed hands, joining the collection of an enthusiast who continued the work by restoring the gearbox and replacing the clutch. It was purchased a few years later at an Aguttes auction by the current owner, a major collector from the Paris region! Today, our Delta is as impressive as ever: this authentic Evo 2 is an extremely faithful replica of Carlos Sainz’s car! More recently, the wiring harness, brakes and fuel tank have been overhauled.

Its performance is impressive, yet the car remains manageable, largely thanks to the precision of its chassis and the effectiveness of its AP Racing brakes. Nearly €120,000 have been invested in this car, which will satisfy even the most demanding of collectors!
