Lancia’s development of the Aurelia GT, itself a derivative of the B10 Aurelia Saloon that débuted in 1950, continued at the Brussels Motor Show of January 1955. The official début was of an arresting wraparound-windscreen spider, designated the B24. The competition successes of the Aurelia GT in the early-1950s had encouraged Lancia to offer increasingly sporting body styles for customers, and renowned U.S. importer Max Hoffman pitched numerous European manufacturers on embracing the potential of the American marketplace for dual-purpose open-top sports cars. Accordingly, between December 1954 and October 1955, Pinin Farina bodied 240 examples of the dynamic B24 Spider on the fourth-series Aurelia GT chassis, with the latter 181 of them being classified as B24S.

In July 1956, Lancia began offering a revised version of the B24S that was built on the fifth-series Aurelia GT platform, which featured modified camshafts, non-detachable cylinder liners, a new clutch, and direct drive top gear. The new car also featured revised bodywork, a true convertible top and roll-up windows for proper weather sealing, and redesigned seats for improved overall driver comfort. It was officially dubbed the Aurelia GT 2500 America Convertible, and only 150 examples of the new B24S were produced before a final revision was enacted in 1957 on the sixth-series Aurelia GT chassis. Following this final iteration, the model line was discontinued entirely, at which point just 521 examples of the B24S Convertible had been produced.

The Convertible offered here was built 9 May 1957 and then shipped to the United States. In 1986, following ownership by California enthusiasts, it was sold by future American Lancia Club President Steve Peterson to a collector in Germany. Later in the 1990s, it was treated to a five-year comprehensive restoration, which was performed by the marque specialists of B&R Touring Garage in Troisdorf, Germany, during which the body was refinished in its original colour of Grigio. After completion of the work, this car was selected to represent the model in the 100 Years of Lancia celebration at the Fiat Museum.

In its current ownership, the car has been fitted with correct original wheels, and it has continued to be maintained in excellent overall condition. It is a charming example of one of Lancia’s most sporting and exciting offerings.

Pour Lancia, le développement de l'Aurelia GT, elle-même issue de la berline Aurelia B10 présentée en 1950, s'est poursuivi au Salon de Bruxelles de janvier 1955. La première version officielle était un spider doté d'un étonnant pare-brise enveloppant, dénommé B24. En effet, les succès en compétition de l'Aurelia GT au début des années 1950 avaient incité Lancia à proposer des carrosseries de plus en plus sportives à ses clients. De plus, Max Hoffman, le bouillant importateur aux États-Unis, encourageait de nombreux constructeurs européens à prendre en compte le potentiel du marché américain pour les voitures de sport décapotables.

Par conséquent, entre décembre 1954 et octobre 1955, Pinin Farina réalisa 240 exemplaires du spider B24 sur la base du châssis Aurelia GT quatrième série, les 181 dernières voitures étant classifiées B24 S.

A partir de juillet 1956, Lancia proposa une version modifiée de la B24 S basée sur la plateforme Aurelia GT cinquième série, qui présentait des arbres à cames modifiés, des chemises non détachables, un nouvel embrayage et un dernier rapport de boîte en prise directe. La nouvelle voiture recevait aussi une carrosserie modifiée comportant une vraie capote et des vitres remontantes pour assurer une bonne étanchéité, ainsi que des sièges redessinés pour améliorer le confort général du conducteur.

Dénommée officiellement Aurelia GT 2500 America Convertible, cette nouvelle B24 S était produite à 150 exemplaires avant une dernière version présentée en 1957, sur la base de la plateforme sixième série. La gamme Aurelia disparaissait ensuite du catalogue : à ce stade, un total de 521 exemplaires de B24 S Convertible avaient vu le jour.

La Lancia Convertible proposée ici a été fabriquée le 9 mai 1957, et acheminée aux États-Unis. Après être passée entre les mains de passionnés californiens, elle a été vendue en 1986 par le futur président de l'American Lancia Club, Steve Peterson, à un collectionneur basé en Allemagne. Plus tard, dans les années 1990, elle a bénéficié d'une restauration complète étalée sur cinq ans, réalisée par les spécialistes de la marque B&R Touring Garage, à Troisdorf, en Allemagne. La carrosserie fut alors repeinte dans sa teinte d'origine, Grigio. A la fin des travaux, cette voiture fut sélectionnée pour représenter le modèle à l'occasion de la célébration des 100 ans de Lancia, au musée Fiat.

Entre les mains de son propriétaire actuel, la voiture a reçu des jantes d'origine correctes, et son excellent état a été préservé. Il s'agit d'un exemplaire séduisant d'une des Lancia les plus sportives et les plus excitantes.
