In 2001, after 10 years of production, Lamborghini introduced a new replacement for its flagship supercar, the Diablo. This new model was called the Murciélago after a famous line of Spanish fighting bulls, and rightfully so, as it featured a 6.2L longitudinally mounted V-12 engine mated to an all-wheel drive system that split 70% of the power to the rear wheels and 30% to the front. Designed by Lamborghini Head of Design Luc Donckerwolke, the Murciélago was the first new design completed by Lamborghini under the supportive arm of then-new parent company Audi.
With more than 1,000 produced, Lamborghini introduced an open-top roadster version in 2003, which resulted in another 848 examples being produced until 2006 when an updated and upgraded Murciélago made its way onto the scene. Debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the new Murciélago—designated the LP640—featured an enlarged 6.5L V-12 engine producing 631 HP at 8,000 RPM and 487 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 RPM. Feeding this increased power through a new “e-Gear” automated manual transmission with launch control and an all-wheel drive system enabled the LP640 to rocket from 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 209 MPH.
The aggressive-looking exterior featured extensive use of carbon fiber and the addition of an active rear wing and air intakes, which were electromechanically controlled to deploy at high speeds to improve the Murciélago’s high-speed efficiency. Other improvements included a redesigned interior that featured increased headroom. This 2009 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster from the Jerry Brewis Estate Collection shows just a mere 3,495 miles on the odometer.
Finished in Verge Ithaca (green) with a green and black leather interior and diamond stitching, this striking Murciélago also features a Kenwood AM/FM stereo, iconic Lamborghini scissor doors, 5-spoke wheels with green pinstripes, Pirelli P Zero tires and power windows, locks and mirrors.
