At the Geneva Auto Show of 1976, Lamborghini introduced the Silhouette P300 as a sort of styling exercise by Bertone. Based heavily on the earlier Lamborghini Urraco, the Silhouette featured more modern, angular styling, a mid/transversely mounted, 3.0L V-8 engine linked to a 5-speed manual transmission, and a Targa top. Only 54 cars were produced, 12 of which were right-hand drive, and it's been said that only 31 Silhouettes survive. In 1981, Lamborghini introduced the Jalpa P350. Very similar to the Silhouette, the Jalpa featured a more powerful 255 HP, DOHC, 3.5L V-8 engine, more aggressive styling and the Targa top.
Lamborghini claimed 0-60 performance of six seconds, quarter-mile of 15.4 seconds at 92 miles per hour, and a top speed of 145 miles per hour. In 1984, subtle styling changes created a more modern look for Jalpa, but sales were slowly declining, and Chrysler, which owned Lamborghini at the time, ended Jalpa production in 1988. Only 410 Jalpas were ever built, marking it as a rare car, but one of the most successful cars Lamborghini had built to date. This White-on-White 1987 Jalpa is a U.S. Specification car delivered to Canada in July of 1987. Having only three previous owners, the car features a metric odometer and is believed to have covered only 36,832 kilometers since new.
The L353 3.5L, 255 HP DOHC V-8 engine is fed through Weber twin-throat carburetors and is backed by the synchromesh 5-speed manual transmission. Pirelli P7 tires work with the independent suspension, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers, and Girling ventilated disc brakes to keep things under control. Finished in Bianco Perlato with White leather interior, the car is complete with the original tool kit, miscellaneous service records and correct Campagnolo cast magnesium wheels.
