The Lamborghini Diablo had a tough act to follow. Its predecessor was the Countach, which featured outrageous sharp styling and scissor doors. The Countach was the ultimate bedroom poster car of teenage boys throughout the 1980s and made Lamborghini into a legitimate competitor for Ferrari. Before this spaceship arrived, the Miura was a groundbreaking car that showed the sports car world that a mid-mounted engine was the way to the future. The Diablo started off on the right foot. It was designed by the revered Marcello Gandini, the Italian master who penned both the Countach and Miura. Gandini didn’t stray far from his Countach playbook.

The Diablo would still have scissor doors that opened skyward, air vents on the rear deck, a big wing at the back and a raucous 48-valve 5.7LV-12 powerplant placed just behind the driver’s head. All of these visual and aural treats combined with the ingredients of 485 HP and a 202 MPH top speed to make up the recipe for the world’s most exotic ride. Even Chrysler’s softening of Gandini’s original drawings couldn’t screw the thing up. The Diablo was just as wild and untamed as every Lamborghini should be.

It was such an unabashed hit and would soldier on through three separate ownership groups of Lamborghini, including the aforementioned Chrysler, a Malaysian-Indonesian consortium and Volkswagen Group’s Audi division. It made no difference. The car seemed just as cool when it went out of production as when it debuted 11 years earlier. This fine example of a rear-wheel-drive Diablo is believed to have only 21,783 original kilometers or 13,069 miles.

It features Red paint with an optional rear wing, polished wheels, a TUBI Italian performance exhaust system, Tan leather interior with Red piping, the original Alpine stereo system, a CarFax, books and manuals, service records, tool kit and emergency parts kit.
