Jack Roush was deeply involved in the development of the 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R, providing extensive engineering input and development work for Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT). It will come as no surprise, then, that he purchased this pristinely preserved example directly off the Ford production line. Offered with an odometer reading of just 17 miles at the time of writing, this 1995 Cobra R is one of only 250 produced in a limited edition reserved only for buyers possessing a valid competition license or race team ownership, reflecting its intended purpose as a factory-ready road racer.
Available only in Crystal White paint with a unique saddle cloth bucket seat interior, the Cobra R boasted an SVT-modified 5.8L Windsor V-8 engine with external oil cooler and heavy-duty cooling, a 5-speed manual transmission and 3.55:1 differential. The race-tuned chassis incorporated heavy-duty progressive rate springs, adjustable shocks and struts, larger 30mm front and 27mm rear stabilizer bars, 4-wheel power disc brakes with large 13-inch front ventilated rotors and dual-piston calipers, and 17-inch five-spoke alloy Cobra R wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Comp T/A tires.
To optimize the Cobra R’s modifications, Roush prescribed a weight loss program that included deleting the rear seat, radio, air conditioning, power windows and power seats, sound deadening, and other standard comforts. The results spoke for themselves: a 0-60 MPH time of 5.2 seconds, 14-second quarter-mile times and a top speed in excess of 150 MPH—solid numbers for a competitive factory endurance racer of the era, reflecting Jack Roush’s substantial contribution to the mid-1990s Mustang renaissance.
