While four-cylinder cars rarely blip the excitement meter for most automotive enthusiasts, one exception is the Mustang SVO. Built during the early ’80s, these turbo-charged 4-cylinders proved intelligent engineering could deliver high-performance from conservative cubic-inch displacement engines. The SVOs, with their race suspension, turbocharged engine, electronic fuel injection, and unique scooped hood and dual rear wing, were welcome limited-production models at a time when American V8 performance had hit the bottom of its malaise. Today they represent a special niche in Mustang history.

All SVOs built after April 1985 were designated as “mid-year.” Factory modifications to the engine consisted of increased 15 PSI boost pressure, different intake manifold, water-cooled turbo, an enhanced .48 turbine for quicker spool-up, injectors increased from 30 to 35 pounds per hour, updated EEC IV processor, dual mufflers and tailpipes. The engine modifications increased the output to 205hp at 5000 rpm, with 240 ft/lbs of torque at 3200 rpm. The only changes to the body consisted of new flush Aero Style headlamps. A scant 439 of 1,515 ’85 SVOs were produced mid-year, which made this the rarest of the breed and the most sought-after.

All-original and unmodified, delivered in Medium Canyon Red Metallic with a gray interior showing just over 23,000 actual miles, the car is verified with a good, clean CARFAX. Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s manual, operating guide, warranty ID owner’s card, dealer stock hang tags, miscellaneous registrations, insurance cards, parts receipts and a First Place trophy from the 2004 Shelby Spring Fling.
