The Ford GT40 was developed to take on and pummel Ferrari at its own game, and it succeeded by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race four consecutive times from 1966-69. This is a faithful replica of those cars. Measuring 40 inches from ground to rooftop, the GT40 was based on the Lola Mk6. The GT40 MkI, MkII and MkIII were designed and assembled in England, while the final MkIV was designed and built in the United States. After a failed attempt to buy Ferrari, Henry Ford II and his personal secretary, Franco Gozzi, were angry when they exited a meeting with Enzo Ferrari. Ford issued a directive to sink Ferrari at its own game: racing.
The GT40 was one of those weapons Dearborn used against Maranello. This GT40 replica is a wonderful tribute to the machine that put Ford on the map and embarrassed Ferrari, even if only for a moment in time. Bright red with white livery, it rides on racing-style wheels and is powered by a V-8 engine with stacked fuel injection.
