This Fiat Abarth was purchased in 2001 in Loiret from an enthusiast who had acquired it from Abarth specialist Guy Moerenhout. The car came from Germany and was in group 3 configuration, conforming to the original and was well preserved. After taking part in the Monte Carlo Historique in 2005 and the Rallye France Tour in 2006, a complete overhaul of the 124 was decided and entrusted to a former engine specialist from Condriller in the Digne region, Marco Lagrange. The bodywork was stripped bare and completely redone to Group 4 specifications, in accordance with FIA homologation.
The Abarth engine has benefited from a Rallye preparation, with forged pistons, lightened connecting rods, reworked cylinder head, large valves, “Rallye” camshaft, with a max power of 159bhp on the test bench. A close-ratio Colotti gearbox and a reinforced clutch were fitted, while the suspensions were redone with “Rallye” springs. On the bodywork, the typical wing extensions, the FRP bonnet and the headlamps integrated into the grille give it the appearance of the factory Group 4 reinforced by the official colors of the 74 and 75 seasons.
After brake problems at the Tour Corse Historique 2010, the group 4 brake system with large calipers and ventilated discs was fitted, along with a hydraulic handbrake and a larger 75L tank. The car has since taken part in numerous competitions and has been restored or repaired as and when damaged. In 2018, the engine was completely redone by the Bolla garage and the FFSA technical passport dates from April 3, 2019. After a general overhaul, this Abarth, accompanied by a lot of parts (engine, gearboxes, rims, etc.) will be ready for any rally, and is a good representative of the works cars which twice won the European Rally Championship.
