This Ferrari 355 F1 Spider is presented in signature red with a tan interior and a black top. Rolling on the 5-point Ferrari alloy wheels, it presents very well and comes complete with service records showing major servicing, including timing belts, gaskets and much more, attesting to its careful owners. One of the most popular Ferraris ever built, legend has it that the F355 came about as a result of the well-built and reliable Acura NSX, a car that could not only be track driven, but used as a daily driver as well.
In 1994, Ferrari introduced the F355, initially available only as a Berlinetta and GTS Targa; the Spider joined the lineup in 1995. The goal was not only to produce a vehicle posting higher speeds and 0-60 MPH times, but a true GT sports car that offered drivers a more docile driving experience in traffic, as well as on the open road: a car that wouldn’t think of overheating in traffic, and a car that was just a joy to drive. Ferrari accomplished the feat relatively inexpensively, but an extraordinary amount of time was spent in the wind tunnels sculpting the body for optimal aerodynamics, in turn, producing exceptional downforce.
The engine was a revised version of the outgoing 348, boring it slightly and adding 5-valve heads among the major changes. It was equipped with ultra-lightweight internals like titanium connecting rods. The engine management was courtesy of Bosch Motronic 2.7, Bosch M5.2 debuting in 1997 and later cars. Adding more spice to the mix, in 1997, Ferrari offered the F1 electrohydraulic paddle-shift transmission that provided nearly instantaneous shifts and a fabulous F1-car sound. Cars equipped as such received a slight name change from F355 to 355 F1, but no one seemed to care.
The F1 was overwhelmingly popular with enthusiasts, and the F355 and 355 F1 accomplished Ferrari’s goal of producing a car that was reliable and incredibly fun to drive.
